A positive kindergarten experience can pave the way for your child's future success as he or she proceeds through the primary grades. The A Beka curriculum is used at Oak Leaf Learning Center in our kindergarten class to facilitate the development of the whole child - social, intellectual, emotional, and physical. We offer a rich learning and nurturing environment with many opportunities. We focus academically on reading, writing, math and science skills and social studies. Computer classes are a regular part of our day. The children love to play outdoors on the custom built play equipment. We have recently added a large covered outdoor play area great for basketball and other activities. For special events or entertainment, the theater/auditorium with elevated seating is the place to be. Oak Leaf Learning Center limits class size in our private kindergarten to provide more one-on-one attention and positive guidance. We strive to develop skills like self-confidence, problem solving, and social interaction through a variety of age appropriate activities. Overview of Academics Reading is taught through the use of phonics. Their reading vocabulary naturally grows with each new sound learned. In mathematics students will learn to count and recognize numbers 1-100. Addition concepts are taught up through the sum of 10, and beginning subtraction concepts are introduced. Students also learn to work with telling time and money. Students learn cursive writing in a program that is correlated with their phonics. As they learn to recognize the letters of the alphabet and learn what sound they make, they also learn to write them. Later they learn to write blends, words, and sentences. During Skills Development, students learn visual perception skills, motor coordination, and listening/thinking skills. During Activity Time, they enjoy music, art, and a unit on Community Helpers, an introduction to American history and geography and a chance to meet people living in other countries. During Language Enrichment, the children learn about positional words and opposites, rhyming words and analogies, drama, and poetry. They will also get a chance to share their experiences and ideas during "Telling Time." Summer Activites Oak Leaf provides all the opportunities for a great summer program. Our swimming pool offers a welcome relief from the heat and swim lessons are also available. There are many optional field trips that are both fun and educational. Activities are provided at the center if a child does not participate in a field trip. Come by Oak Leaf Learning Center and take a look for yourself.
